Yea it may help you a tiny bit to take 217 first, but that’s only if you’re taking a course that’s heavy in research papers (308 with Dunn was my only one like that) if I were you I’d be more focused on balancing the course load out so that it’s even across semesters. The class I did the best in and found the easiest and most interesting during my first year was a 4th year course (not just 400-level, every other person in it was 3rd/4th/grad school), from a discipline I also took a first year course in.
